By installing, copying, downloading, or using the Software, you agree to this EULA. If you use the Software for a company, firm, agency, or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept this EULA for that organisation.

1. Licence Grant

After payment of the applicable one-time fee, or during the free trial described below, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the Software for your own lawful purposes on devices you own or control.

This is a licence to use the Software, not a transfer of ownership of the Software or its source code. We retain all intellectual property rights in the Software, except for any third-party components that remain owned by their respective owners.

The licence is perpetual for the version you purchased, unless terminated under this EULA. We may provide updates, fixes, or new versions, but we do not promise to provide them forever. Major future versions may require a separate purchase.

2. What the Software Does

The Software helps you redact PDFs by letting you mark content manually and by detecting some structured data patterns, such as email addresses, phone numbers, tax IDs, and similar text patterns. It then writes a new PDF output file. The Software is designed to remove selected underlying text where supported, not merely draw a visual box over the text.

Depending on the document and the current features in the Software, the Software may also warn about, refuse, flatten, rasterise, or strip supporting PDF structures such as forms, annotations, metadata, and attachments.

3. Redaction Accuracy and Your Responsibility

Real Redact is a document-redaction aid. It is not a guarantee that a document contains no sensitive, confidential, privileged, personal, health, financial, legal, commercial, or regulated information.

No redaction tool can guarantee that it will find or remove every item in every PDF. Redaction quality can be affected by many things, including scanned or image-only pages, OCR errors, handwriting, poor image quality, custom fonts, unusual encodings, hidden layers, annotations, form fields, attachments, metadata, damaged PDFs, encrypted PDFs, and the particular words or categories you choose to redact.

Automated detection is pattern-based and limited. It may miss names, addresses, account numbers, identifiers, contextual secrets, or other sensitive information unless you manually mark them. It may also produce false positives or remove more text than expected.

Post-save verification, warnings, refusal gates, and in-app reminders are safeguards, not certifications. They do not remove your obligation to inspect the output.

You are responsible for:

Do not share, upload, file, publish, or send a redacted output file until you have reviewed it yourself and are satisfied that it is safe for that use.

4. Professional, Regulated, and High-Risk Use

If you use the Software for client, patient, customer, employee, legal, medical, accounting, government, regulated, or other professional information, you remain responsible for your professional judgment and compliance obligations.

The Software is not legal, medical, accounting, compliance, records-management, cybersecurity, or privacy advice. It should not be used as the sole control for high-risk disclosures. For high-risk documents, you should use an independent review process before upload or disclosure.

We do not assume duties to your clients, patients, customers, employers, courts, counterparties, regulators, or other third parties merely because their information appears in a document you process with the Software.

5. Free Trial

The Software allows a limited number of free redacted-file exports, currently 3, so you can evaluate it before paying. After the trial is used, exporting a redacted file requires a valid licence key. Trial usage is recorded locally on your device. Preview and detection may remain available without a licence.

6. Privacy and No-Network Design

The desktop Software makes no outbound network connections. It does not transmit your documents, redactions, OCR text, telemetry, analytics, crash reports, usage data, or licence activation events to us or to anyone else. Processing happens locally on your device.

Our website, email, payment, and support processes are separate from the desktop Software and are covered by our Privacy Policy.

7. Licence Keys

Your licence key is personal to you. Validation is performed offline on your device using public-key cryptography; we do not receive a signal when you activate or use a key.

Do not share, sell, publish, or redistribute your licence key. We may decline to honour licence keys that we reasonably determine were obtained fraudulently, generated without authorisation, publicly shared, resold, or otherwise misused.

8. Restrictions

You must not:

9. Backups and Source Documents

The Software writes a new output file and is intended to leave your original PDF untouched. Even so, you should keep backups of source documents and any records required by your work, profession, or law. You are responsible for preserving any original document that must be retained.

10. Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in this EULA excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, remedy, or other protection you have under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) or any other law where it would be unlawful to do so.

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the ACL. If there is a major failure, you may be entitled to a refund, replacement, cancellation, compensation, or other remedy under the ACL. If there is a failure that is not major, you may be entitled to have the failure fixed within a reasonable time and, if it is not fixed, to a remedy under the ACL.

Where the ACL or another law permits us to limit our liability for a failure to comply with a guarantee, our liability is limited, at our option, to one or more of the following: replacing the Software or supplying equivalent software; repairing the Software; paying the cost of replacing or repairing the Software; resupplying the relevant service; paying the cost of resupplying the relevant service; or refunding the price paid.

This section prevails over any inconsistent limitation, disclaimer, or exclusion in this EULA.

11. Disclaimers

Subject always to Section 10 and to the maximum extent permitted by law, the Software is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise that the Software will be error-free, uninterrupted, compatible with every PDF, compatible with every system configuration, or suitable as the only safeguard for confidential or regulated information.

Subject always to Section 10 and to the maximum extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that the Software will detect or remove every item of sensitive information from every document, that warnings or verification checks will identify every issue, or that an output file will be safe for any particular upload, disclosure, filing, publication, or use.

12. Limitation of Liability

Subject always to Section 10 and to the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive loss or damage, including loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill, opportunity, data, documents, reputation, or anticipated savings.

Subject always to Section 10 and to the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from:

Subject always to Section 10 and to the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Software or this EULA is limited to the amount you paid for the Software.

13. Business and Organisational Use

If you use the Software on behalf of a business, firm, agency, or other organisation, then to the maximum extent permitted by law, that organisation is responsible for claims, losses, costs, and expenses arising from its documents, its disclosure decisions, its compliance obligations, and its users’ use of the Software, except to the extent caused by our breach of this EULA, our negligence, or a liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

14. Termination

This licence continues unless terminated. We may terminate it if you materially breach this EULA and do not remedy the breach within a reasonable time after we notify you. On termination, you must stop using and uninstall the Software. Sections that by their nature should survive termination survive, including Sections 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13.

15. Governing Law

This EULA is governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. The parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland and the courts that hear appeals from them.

This does not deprive a consumer of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection laws of their place of residence where those laws apply and cannot be waived.
